Inclusive Innovation Week: Language Access Training Summit. Global Wordsmiths has teamed up with The Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council, The Allegheny County Department of Human Services, All for All, The Center for Hearing & Deaf Services and Jewish Family and Community Services to coordinate a day-long training summit all about language access. If you or your organization come into contact with immigrants and refugees and you want to learn how to most effectively communicate, register here. The Forbes Funds Executive in Residence Program. Through the Executive in Residence program, Global Wordsmiths will receive high-level advisory support as we strive to strengthen our organizational impact, nimbleness, and sustainability. The goal of the program is to offer just-in-time assistance and coaching services to executive directors in order to minimize organizational disruption and/or to seize opportunities with a greater level of assurance. The EIR program is open to human service and community development organizations in Allegheny County. We’re Hiring! We are currently hiring ASL, Spanish, Arabic, Nepali, Vietnamese, Lingala and Swahili translators and interpreters. Comprehensive training is provided by Global Wordsmiths, so no prior translation or interpretation experience is necessary. Contact careers@globalwordsmiths.comto apply. Local nonprofits working with LEP individuals who would like to receive free language translation and interpretation through The Language Access Project have one more week to apply. Alliance for Refugee Youth Support and Education (ARYSE) supports immigrant and refugee youth in becoming prepared, engaged and confident members of American society. Through individualized mentoring, out-of-school time programming and advocacy training, ARYSE helps refugee and immigrant youth to take their place as leaders within their community and our world.

Project -Logue call for artists, translators Calling Storytellers, Artists and Translators for -LOGUE’s March 2019 Multilingual Art Exhibit. If English is not your home language, -LOGUE wants to help you tell your story. They are also looking for artists and native-fluency English translators interested in cultural exchange, who will collaborate with storytellers to create multimedia, cross-cultural art. Final artforms will be displayed in -LOGUE’s March 2019 multilingual exhibit. -LOGUE is a Pittsburgh-based organization that promotes cultural exchange through artistic translation. Immigrant Rights are Human Rights - Pittsburgh March 4, 12-2pm, Market Square On March 4th and 5th, immigrant and refugees communities, advocates, and allies will be gathering across Pennsylvania to lift up the vision and power of immigrants through art, community, and stories. Trabajadores de Restaurantes- Aprendan sus Derechos March 5th 6:00 – 8:00 USW – 60 Blvd, of the Allies, Pittsburgh PA 15222 On January 11, ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) picked up several undocumented workers in Pittsburgh restaurants. We can’t let this keep happening in our community. We are hosting two concurrent sessions for employees and employers in the restaurant industry about your rights when interacting with immigration agents. We will also cover employment and labor rights. Immigrant and Refugee Inclusion Convening (Meeting 1) March 8, 8:30 – 10:00am – The Global Switchboard The Global Switchboard has partnered with The Sprout Fund to design convenings that will help them to understand common network needs that can be addressed through their programmatic offerings. Van Gogh, Monet, Degas: The Mellon Collection of French Art March 17 – July 8, 2018 - The Frick Pittsburgh The Frick Pittsburgh will present Van Gogh, Monet, Degas: The Mellon Collection of French Art from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, an exhibition featuring more than 70 masterpieces collected by Pittsburgh-born collector and philanthropist, Paul Mellon (1907-1999), beginning in spring 2018. The exhibition will be on view at The Frick Art Museum from March 17 through July 8, 2018, and will be complemented by a range of public programs. Casa’s Rapid Response Team: Legal Observer Training March 18th, 10:00am – 12:00pm at Casa San José Raids and the threat of raids send a wave of terror and distrust in our immigrant communities. Casa San Jose’s Rapid Response Team counters this by providing various methods of support to let the families and communities know that they are not alone. And that they are valued. Casa will have a legal observer training so that you can learn how to serve as a legal observer and defend and support the rights of all people! But unconscious biases don’t just live in our individual brains; they also influence the success or failure of our organizations. As National Public Radio’s social science correspondent and the host of the Hidden BrainPodcast, Shankar Vedantam offers unique insights into how our unconscious biases affect the decisions we make. He bases these insights on data, not psychological theories of the subconscious, to reveal unconscious patterns and ways in which we can avoid the mistakes they often cause. Vanka lectures: The Story of Norvelt March 22, 6:00pm St. Nicholas Croation Catholic Church Norvelt, the small New Deal community in Westmoreland County shares a common history with the Millvale Murals: both were created during the Great Depression at a time of despair and hopelessness. And both offered those who experienced them a sense of hope, a vision of a more just and equal world, and a path forward. Michael Cary, Tim Kelly, and Margaret Power, the authors of Hope in Hard Times: Norvelt and the Struggle for Community during the Great Depression, will share with you the story of Norvelt.
