Hello, friends.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. Given the work we do, reflecting on Independence Day always brings me back to the ways immigrants and refugees have shaped American life. For 250 years, they have enriched the United States with an extraordinary range of talents, traditions, and perspectives that are inextricably and permanently woven into the fabric of our national identity. They have built our railroads, staffed our hospitals, founded our most iconic companies, enriched our culture, and defended our freedoms. Their contributions are the American story.

I am so, so proud to work alongside so many wonderful people from every corner of the planet. I am grateful to you all for helping us facilitate communication and connection as we continue to build and shape and weave this tapestry together.

Mary Jayne Talks Language Access with Talk Pittsburgh and Yinz Are Good Podcast!

Last month, we were guests on KDKA-TV’s Talk Pittsburgh thanks to Tressa Glover, the creator of the Yinz Are Good podcast. The segment was a result of Mary Jayne McCullough’s recent Yinz Are Good podcast interview with Tressa where they discussed everything from what inspired Mary Jayne to start Global Wordsmiths to how language access is positively impacting our local community from helping patients get better care to providing the resources and information multilingual students need to thrive in school.

Welcome, Christine! We are so excited to announce that Christine Yockel is joining Global Wordsmiths this month as our new, full-time Service Coordinator.

"As a lover of the written and spoken word, I am SO excited to join Global Wordsmiths because humans, within our nature, we want to be understood. Two people who really want to communicate with each other will find a way, I firmly believe that. But access to services that can make that communication faster, easier, and more contextually precise helps facilitate the transfer of knowledge and foster the magic of human connection."

Employee Spotlight

As one of the program's pioneers, our Director of Vendor Management, Lilly Abreu, just finished teaching her 27^th Notes from the Heart summer camp. The Woodlands Notes from the Heart music program offers a wide variety of activities that range from music appreciation, theory composition, singing, and performing, under the guidance of internationally and locally known musicians, artists, conductors, and educators. The program helps campers develop fine motor and cognitive skills through music while fostering creativity, self-expression, teamwork, self-discipline, and confidence.
