Announcements


New Partner Organizations! We are brimming with excitement to announce Global Wordsmiths’ Partner Organizations for the upcoming Language Access Project cycle: Bike Pittsburgh. Bike Pittsburgh is transforming our streets and communities into vibrant, healthy places by making them safe and accessible for everyone to bike and walk. Building New Hope. Building New Hope collaborates with Central Americans to build sustainable livelihoods by linking people and communities with educational and economic opportunities. Friends of Farmworkers. Friends of Farmworkers supports low-wage workers as they pursue economic and social justice. We do this through the provision of Legal Services, Education, and Advocacy. JFCS Refugee and Immigrant Services. JFCS Refugee & Immigrant Services has worked with thousands of individuals and families over the years, helping them create new lives in our community after escaping unimaginable circumstances. From resettling newly-arriving refugees to connecting people with critical resources for acclimating to live in our country, JFCS is with it’s clients through every step of their journey. Just Harvest. Just Harvest educates, empowers and mobilizes people to eliminate hunger, poverty, and economic injustice in our communities by influencing public policy, engaging in advocacy, and connecting people to public benefits. From January 16 through April 20, these organizations will receive Arabic, French, Hindi, Mandarin, Nepali and Spanish language translation and interpretation services at no cost through the Language Access Project so that they can provide meaningful language access to the clients they serve. Hooray! Global Pittsburgh Immigrant Champion Award Nomination. Global Wordsmiths has been nominated for a Global Pittsburgh Immigrant Entrepreneur Celebration Award in the Immigrant Champion category. This new annual event will showcase the wide range of enterprises and services in the Pittsburgh region provided by immigrant entrepreneurs and champions. The Immigrant Entrepreneur Celebration will take place on the evening of Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the Rivers Club. Tickets available here. Pitchwerks Episode #57. Pittsburgh’s Multicultural Liaison Unit launched Wednesday to help bridge the cultural and communication gaps between the Department of Public Safety and immigrant and refugee communities. The unit is comprised of members of the mayor’s office, public safety and the police bureau, who will work together with community leaders. https://tinyurl.com/y7rbgy27

Client Spotlight: Consumer Health Coalition

Consumer Health Coalition’s (CHC) mission is to inspire a consumer movement to advance health and enhance access to quality, affordable healthcare in Southwestern Pennsylvania. CHC reaches out to and enrolls at-risk consumers in public health insurance programs, and educates the community about the availability of public health insurance programs and pertinent health policy issues. CHC both serves and organizes at-risk, marginalized people and the organizations that serve them to influence system reform. They have a strong commitment to partnerships in Allegheny County and Southwestern Pennsylvania and strive to continually expand their reach. Please contact Consumer Health Coalition for free assistance with enrolling in the Health Insurance Marketplace before open enrollment ends on December 15, 2017. CHC also help consumers with applying for Medical Assistance and the CHIP program any time of the year.

Pennsylvania Immigration and Citizenship Coalition Community Navigator Training November 27 – December 9 From November 27-December 9, PICC will be hosting an in-person training series for Community Navigators. Navigators will receive specialized training to provide quality immigration services for their communities in an empowering and effective ways. Interpretation and childcare will be available. They are part of a powerful and successful movement for peace and justice in an area that has been racked by inter-religious violence for over a decade. But five years ago, Lian was just a single mother living in rural Poso with a broken leg and a big dream to educate marginalized women. The Peace Agency follows her remarkable journey from her village to New York City to create The Women’s School, an institution that transforms its all-female class into agents of peace and non-violence grassroots activism that has altered the course of the conflict in Poso, and possibly the future of Indonesia.
